Education System

Australian Education System is divided into Schools, Foundation, VET, Undergraduate and Postgraduate.

Schools & Foundation

Primary & Secondary Schools :

It begins at the age of five and they learn to be in a group which helps them develop respect, tolerance and teamwork among their peers. As for Secondary schools, more mature children normally teens, learn core subjects such as English, Math and Sciences and later on some elective which can help them prepare more for their career.

Foundation :

These programs are made for international students aim to ease transition from a student’s education in their home county into Australian undergraduate degrees. Usually about a year to finish but high-achieving student can opt to do the 9 months fast-track program.

Vocational Education & Training

Education providers such as TAFE, public and private institutions offer courses from Certificate I-IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma. This sector aims to provide competencies focusing on skills development relevant in a field of skilled specialisation.

Under Graduate

Bachelor Degrees are normally of 3 years duration and requires completion of year 12 in the Philippines. Undergraduate courses are delivered in Universities or Colleges in large cities or regional areas in all states.

Post Graduate

Courses offered include Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Masters or PhD. These courses require completion of a recognised Bachelor’s Degree. Entry to most Postgraduate Courses is highly competitive and needs a high English proficiency requirement.

Application Procedure

Intakes :

• February and July are the major intakes across universities with a few offering November intake as well.
• February, July, and September are the major intakes for all another type of institutions.

Entry Requirements / Eligibility

Academic :

• 65% and above in HSC for Bachelors programs
• 60% and above in Bachelors for Masters Programs.

If a student has lower scores then they can be eligible for pathway programs leading to main programs.

Experience :

Certain institutions ask 2 to 3 years of work experience for Masters Program.

Language :

• IELTS 5.5 (5) for Diploma and Advance Diploma
• IELTS 6 (5.5) for Bachelors
• IELTS 6.5 (6) for Masters

Students with a variation of 0.5 Bands in IELTS from the above-mentioned requirement can go for the desired qualification subject to taking ELICOS (English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students).

Cost of Study

Education Costs :

The costs of studying in Australia depend on the institution and the level of study you choose. The list below gives you an indication of the range of course costs for different types of qualifications:

• English language studies – Around $300 per week depending on course length
• Vocational Education and Training (Certificates I to IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma) – $10,000 to $22,000
• Undergraduate Bachelor Degree – $18,000 to $30,000
• Postgraduate Masters Degree – $22,000 to $32,000
• Doctoral Degree – $25,000 to $37,000

Cost of Living :

• According to the Australian government, an international student spends an average of AUD $1550 per month towards living expenses. But from the research, it is seen that Indian students spends around AUD $600 to $800 per month as living expenses which includes accommodation, food, entertainment, transportation, etc.
• For a couple, the official living expense is AUD $2090 approx per month whereas Indian Couples spends around AUD $1200 per month.
